Just to get started…

Finally I have decided to make a blog. I like to write something from time to time, so blog seems to be an obvious proposition. But making long story short – I actually always had trouble to run it for a longer time. I tried several times and there were some peronal blogs, tematical blogs, lots of other plans, yet always after shorter or longer time the idea was dropped. Reason was that I wanted to make this fully my way, and being a programist made that „my way” really difficult. I had to write my own script, my own template, implement my more and more ideas.

It was a bit problematic, because when I’ve wrote such script, it never was good enaugh in my eyes. Even if I published anything it annoyed me. Result was that after some time I deleted it from the internet. After years full of Django projects, lots of templates ready for my own blog idea, I realised it led me nowhere.

Man grows up, changes, realizes his own stupidity. For all those years I wanted to have a place where I could write anything and it would be public. What I had was lots of Django, HTML and CSS code. Road became more important than the target. It was time for revision of my assumptions, defeating my deamons and starting from small steps. So I decided for WordPress and his standard template „twentyeleven” with slight modifications of my own. Script was ready, template was ready and I’ve put minimal effort to set that up.

Content

What it is going to be about? Everything – from politics, through programming and computer stuff, to movies and books. Some of those topics can be extremaly boring, or even weird – so I’ve decided separate them by categories, and also by tags. Categories will help you not get bored to death while searching the content, by helping you to avoid topics that you’re not intrested in, and tags are more precise way to classify entries. That’s why I’ve decided for both ways.

Comments

I’ve made some thinking and finally I decided to use Facebook plugin as comments (even though I preffer Google+ than FB). I’m aware of it’s disadvantages but I hope that when people will have to use they name to comment, they will be more carefull what and how they are writing.

Domain

I’m very proud of my domain. I always dreamed about occasion like that (yes, I’m a geek). Last year when new top level domains „.co” where introduced my dream came true. I didn’t think I will be so lucky – I thought that all three letter domains are going to be sold in 5 seconds, so I was really happy to buy zwr.co (where ZWR are my initials).

Languages

I’m going to write in Polish and English. My English is not perfect but I will do it anyway. If someone is interested in technicalities, to do that I’m using WordPress plugin called qTranslate. It also is not perfect but it works (and it’s free). There are also few other WP plugins that can boost that extension.

Reassuming

Someone once told me – „don’t worry be crappy” and this is how I’m going to develop my webpage. WordPress do the thing for now, and when I will have some time and will, then I will upgrade its technical side. Not regularly. It’s all about writing posts, not code – I write enaugh of code in my job – here is relax and lack of commitements.
